LIBRARY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Our college library has 8305 No of books for study and reference and 8/246 Nos. of journals/06 nos of magazines/10 nos. of periodicals etc. to cater the need of the 1066 collegiate students, 35 members of the staff with 8600 Circulations, 1450 downloads and 5-7 annual publications.
In infrastructural arrangement, we have 5 Department specific Seminar Libraries, Fully computerized library facility, 2 Reading Rooms for boys and girls, 1 Faculty Study Centre, 435 Sq. ft. Open Stack Area with 27 Book cases, 1 Educational tools and support shelves,1 Magazine Corner, 1 Reference Division, 1 Loan Counter and 1 air open green space extension(proposed).
Steps are being taken to enhance the strength and branch of books and journals and to ensure smart and effective, physical and digital access. In addition to lending of books our Library renders the following service based facilities as illustrated below-
STRUCTURAL & FUNCTIONAL: ASPECTS & SERVICES
1. CAS - Current Awareness Service: Up-to-date information & Publishing House Broachers.
2. RRS - Ready Reference Service: Through Computer System based e-Searching and Internet Search Engine Facility at Reference Division and Faculty Study Room.
3. Bibliographic Service – (i) On Department wise Booklet basis and (ii) Electronic Catalogue on software and Database (iii) on website Library page.
4. Open stack area – The core of the Library comprises of a 435 Sq. ft. Open Stack Area with 30 Book cases, containing 8265 books, 1 Educational tools and support shelves, Old Newspapers, Current & Competitive magazines, Digests, Department specific Journals, Souvenirs, Periodicals, Awareness Booklets, etc.
5. Study and Aid facility – Photocopy, e-Mail, FAX, Scanner and Printer like tools and gadgets to print out Study materials on extractions and support.
6. Magazine Corner – The College library maintains and manages a Magazine Study Corner within its sphere, space and time. A special Biblography is available for easy and ready reference of the readers. It therby supports the Career Counseling cell of the College and extend such service to the students and Alumni. Current and Competitive magazines, Digests, Department specific journals, Souvenirs, Periodicals, Awareness Brochers and booklets and news papers in English and Odia are made available.
7. Instant Study Desk – An In-house arrangement for ready reference within Open Stack Area with High-Desks provisions for Faculty members only.
8. Direct Access System - Readers’ Direct Access to study materials through open shelves Rack system for Instant Study Desk only.
9. Reading Room(s) –Integrated Reading Room provisions for Boys and Girls with Readers capacity of 24 each.
10. Wall Magazine - Our College library manages and Maintains the wall magazine of our college – Aliva–Kishore-Smriti” with varied tastes & creativity of our students and faculties on a wide range of aspects like Literary activities, paintings, photography and crafts, etc on 3 numbers of corresponding clipping boards christened as Chintan, Manan and Srujan respectively.
11. Publication Works – To assist the Editorial Board, Research Committee and Seminar & DRC Board in the annual publication of The Padmayoti, the College Calendar and periodic publications of the Seminar Papers and Departmental Research cell articles.
12. Lib.Sc classes – Librarian takes classes on the basics of Library Science, modern informatics systems, DDC and information literacy, etc to collegiate students and members of the staff and thereby helps a lot to enable the readers library-friendly and the library user-friendly. Two numbers of conjunctive Classes i.e. from 9.00 to 9.45 and 9.45 to 10.30 are scheduled for Lib.Sc, on every Saturday and it is compulsory for students of each class to undergo 2 classes per each academic year.
13. Smart Lending – The computerized library system with a variety of digital tools helps the Library department to maintain the e-bibliography, e-Lending Registers, tracking of books, the return of books, locating books, to keep the stock and store balance etc. with physical access.
14. Reference Division – Location, navigation, organization and interpretation of a very large amount/volume of information to support the electronic resources with digital access.
15. Seminar Libraries – Library maintains Honours based 5 Department specific Seminar Libraries at Faculty Study Center and thereby supports the Departmental Research Cells.
16. Faculty Study Center – A special reading room is provided to the members of the faculties, which is fortified with Seminar libraries, Computer on net, direct access to open stack area and Instant Study Desk therein.
17. WI-FI Campus- The College Campus is fortified with WI-FI facility to enable e-searching and Internet facility for the purpose of study and education and to support the provisions of smart class rooms.
18. Air-open Green Space Extension – An Air-open Green Space Extension is proposed to be developed for the readers in general and Library readers in particular to study amidst nature and natural environment.
19. Educational tools and support shelves: Library in association with department of Education also manages one Educational tools and support shelves containing Maps, Charts, Figures, Diagrams, etc, other academic procedurals and articles.
20. Lib-Hub – Our library has nourishes an ambitious plan to share the bibliographic database of other academic institutions and sister organizations of the locality and vice versa and shall come in contact for the need of the development of a Lib-Hub for the purpose of inter – Library borrowings, when required.( An idea, not materialized yet.)
21. Lib. Extension facility – The library Department has proposed to set up lib. Extension facility at Students’ Common Room, Staff Common Room, etc in order to promote readers easy access to study materials and to develop multiple windows of service.
22. Question Bank – Library maintains and manages a Question Bank to beef up the students with exam-prototype question sets of VST quality and question sets for competitive exams and of general interest. A team of professors from different departments forms a panel (Research Committee) for the creation, development and management of the Question Bank. VST – Questions for long (descriptive), Brief notes, Short answers, along with fill in the blanks, True & false, match the following, choose the correct one, multiple choice questions. Terminology, One word substitution, etc are available on the basis of Streams/Wing/Class/Subject and Paper and Topic-wise arrangements.
23. Information Bank – Library maintains and manages Information Bank by collecting e-materials for study and research from internet search engines with the help of the Research Committee and also shapes that information into power point based smart class room teachings.
24. Study Incentive Approaches - The Library Department of the college also distribute awards/prizes like 2 - Golden Rose Readers’ Challenger Trophy for the best boy and girl student of the college on the basis of creative and purposive use of Library i.e. Loan Counter and Reference Division, Reading room, magazine Corner etc. Our Library also plays a prominent role in the dispersal of different scholarships for the students qualifying for it.
25. Study Support Services – Our Library also extends Study materials and Guidance Notes to all students in general and Honours students in particular, in lieu of printing/photo copy cost. The Library has projected an ambitious scheme to develop an i-Bank to support the faculties in particular and the collegiate students in general with topic-wise up-to-date references and power point teaching tools.
26. Research Support Services – It is proposed that our Library shall helps in -
(i) Discovery of Library sources, Grant of funding, Scholarships and Collaborators,
(ii) Use of Specialized software, Consulting services and Information tools,
(iii) Creation of Digital survey, Web publishing, etc. and
(iv) Impact on Author’s rights, Copy rights, , etc.
27. Students’ welfare schemes - Maximum number of books to be issued to Students beneficiaries availing of (a) the free studentship (b) Scholarship from the Government sources, (c) Scholarship from the Patrons, (d) Students availing of the Students’ Aid Funds and (e) any other student sponsored by the proctor on the basis of merit, differently able and economic criteria and duly approved by the Principal shall be only one book more of their existing category.
28. EXTENSION OF LIBRARY SERVICES – The College Library remains open from 10.00 AM to 01.00 PM on summer and winter vacations, on Loan Counter and Reference Division to facilitate academic interests and trasactions, except for Sundays.
29. EXPANSION OF USERS’ SECTOR -Alumni and Neibourhood are also can be library users provided their readership is sponsered by the Profesor-In-Charge, Library and approved by the Principal. With terms and conditions applied, the non-Collegiate library readers shall be issued with a library card with a deposit of Rs. 1000 only as a cash deposit to this effect.
